.......Since taking office there has been numerous activities and developments, (not buildings), that have taken place. Namely, an event that proved very popular for Meltham, the likes of which hasn't been witnessed in recent times, was the inaugural 40s Meltham Memories weekend being a resounding success which the organisers are building on for next year with further, extended plans.
The Greenway has seen improvements with the Council providing funds for benches and signs. Moreover, hundreds of daffodil bulbs have been planted,to brighten the Huddersfield Road entrance and create more colour for Spring.
The Council have made £250,000 available over 5 years, at £50,000 a year, for initiatives that will enhance/maintain the well being of our Township. To date we have agreed grants totaling £30,500.
The Town Council's original initiative on the long awaited Road Safety Traffic Improvements for our town centre has been built on by Kirklees Council and after consultation with Meltham residents is due to be carried out in Spring next year.
On the allotment scene, we have an extensive list of would-be allotment holders that have been waiting for a long number of years. To alleviate matters we are currently considering a proposal for a further, possible 25 plots.
On a lighter and pleasing note, as a particularly pleasant part of my duties I was privileged to personally visit and present a 100th and three 90ths' birthday congratulations, to four charming Meltham ladies.
My wife, Christine and I on behalf of Meltham Town Council wish you all a happy Christmas, and a healthy and successful New Year!
