MELTHAM FAIRTRADE GROUP Welcome to the webpage of Meltham Fairtrade Group. We are a group of Meltham residents working to encourage and support the use of Fairtrade products in the area. To do this we run awareness raising events, talk to local schools and groups about Fairtrade and try to encourage local catering and retail businesses to stock a greater range and number of Fairtrade products. We are working towards making Meltham an official ‘Fairtrade Town’. And we need more help – if you want to get involved, see below.
Our aims
Our objectives
What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade is a system of trade for consumer goods produced in developing countries which guarantees a fair price is paid to the producer. This ensures that disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal. By buying goods carrying the Fairtrade symbol, shoppers can be sure they are contributing to improved working conditions, better wages, good environmental management and improved quality of life for the whole community in the area where the product originated.
