Under the Freedom of Information Act it is the duty of every public authority to adopt and maintain a publication scheme. Publication schemes facilitate the proactive release of information and play a crucial role in supporting and providing greater openness and transparency across the public sector. The Information Commissioner has approved a new model publication scheme which should be adopted by all public authorities and will be effective from 1 January 2009. Meltham Town Council adopted the New Model Publication Scheme 2008 at the Council Meeting on 10 November 2008 Minute 08/63.
The model scheme document can be obtained from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) Web site at http://www.ico.gov.uk/Home/what_we_cover/freedom_of_information/publication_schemes/
The new scheme requires that Council sets out what information the Town Council will publish and make available to the public in a document called A GUIDE TO PROACTIVELY PUBLISHED INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC. This Guide was adopted by Meltham Town Council at the Council Meeting on Monday 12 January 2009 Minute 09/93 and you can view it by clicking here
